Minister Zweli Mkhize confirms 2nd death and total of 1280 cases of Coronavirus COVID-19

As at today, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is 1280. This is an increase of 93 from the previously reported cases.

Minister Fikile Mbalula relaxes hours of public transport vehicles for grant beneficiaries

Following the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa on the days social grants would be paid, a number of industry bodies have made representations on the relaxation of hours public transport vehicles are allowed to operate.  A similar request was made by the Minister of Social Development, Minister Lindiwe Zulu.
 
Having considered Minister Zulu’s request and representations made by various industry bodies, including the taxi industry, I have decided to amend the Public Transport Directions in order to accommodate grant beneficiaries.  

President Cyril Ramaphosa sees off Coronavirus COVID-19 quarantined citizens from The Ranch Resort, 29 Mar

President Cyril Ramaphosa will today, Sunday 29 March 2020, see off the 112 South African citizens who will be reunited with their families after testing negative for coronavirus at the end of their quarantine at the Ranch Resort in Polokwane.

The group was placed under quarantine at the resort from 14 March 2020 after they were repatriated from Wuhan in the Hubei Province of the People’s Republic of China following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19.

Defence calls up reserve force members in fight against Coronavirus COVID-19

The SANDF is calling up members from the Reserve Force to complement the already deployed SANDF in the fight against the Covid-19 virus in line with the National Disaster Management Act of 2002 section 27, sub-section 2, which provides that the SANDF must release its personnel to a national Organ of State for rendering of emergency services. Sub-section 2(f) provides for the SANDF to assist with the movement of persons and goods to and from or within the disaster stricken or threatened area(s).
